Aretha Gilmer, age 16, says she made one of the best decisions of her life when she accepted the invitation to join Adelante’s Ganas program.
“[Adelante] has helped me stay busy, do my homework and get involved in community service projects,” she said. “My grades are up more than before.”

Aretha’s goals for the future now include graduating from college and “helping others.” She believes Adelante can help her fulfill her dreams by helping her to stay involved in positive activities, providing her with academic support and helping her to be involved in volunteer/service activities that will look attractive on college applications.
“I love the care and support from the staff here, the fun trips and activities,” Aretha said. “I am very thankful for this program. It has had an impact on me being positive and staying positive – it’s the best thing.”
